"W-where am I?"
The beeping of a nearby monitor was draining Catarina's consciousness. She was slowly drifting off to sleep in an uncomfortable position in a hospital chair. Her eyes were tired and tear stained. Just as her eyes shut though Abbott's opened. "Abbott?", she said still a bit drowsy and then regaining that lost consciousness. "Abbott!", Cat jumped from her seat to Abbott's bedside. "Thank God!", she cried. "Abbott, your in a hospital.", Cat titled her head; her voice soft.
"Wonderful.", Price sighed. "You should go back to the Splendor you're probably exhausted. Wait, take me with you." he added. Price lifted his head up, and glanced over at Cat managing a small smile.
"Are you sure?", a corner of her mouth turned upright to form a half smile. "You took quite a hit from that bludger.", the image of Abbott pushing her out of the way played in Cat's mind and her head roared.
"I'm sure.", Price replied. "All I could think.....not you, and I wouldn't let myself stand aside and let you get hurt when I could think of a way to prevent it.", Abbott whispered. "It didn't matter my fate didn't, not to me. You matter to me.", he bit his lip, and avoided her gaze.
Catarina flared her nostrils. She hadn't registered the compassionate side of his argument. Suddenly she became angry. "Your fine!", she began to yell. "I would have been fine, just fine!", Cat shook her head and looked down. "I don't need you to protect me.", she looked up her; her voice soft and quiet.
"Merlin!", Abbott hissed turning on his side with a wince. "Sorry then. If you want to go Cat, you can. I'm fine, like you said, so you can just go."
Cat licked the insides of her lips. She looked to the floor and felt her heart weigh her down. "Abbott.", she nearly begged. "I-I'm sor....", but she couldn't bring herself to apologize because the truth was....she wasn't sorry.
"Don't say sorry. I know you too well, Cat.", he murmured not turning around to face her. "You don't mean it.", Abbott shook his head. "Don't lie to try and make me feel better. It's not going to work.", he rolled his eyes. "Well, if you're going to leave then, leave! I advise not to let the door hit you on the way out.", Abbott snarled under his breath.
Why was he so angry? Cat saw no reason to be in such a rut. "Fine then!", Cat turned and opened the door. "Don't you think that I'm going to feel guilty because I'm not! I don't even know why your so angry! I was supposed to get hit, Price! That was my bludger to take!", with that Cat slammed the door and walked out.
"I wasn't going to let you get hit whether that was your bludger to take or not.", Abbott shouted weakly.
Cat had taken all, but two steps before she heard Abbott retort. She turned and huffed, opening the door once more. "Why, Abbott, why? I can take care of myself.", she was calm and tilted her head.
"Because....", Abbott answered and then paused. "never mind, Rina. It's complicated and you probably wouldn't understand.", he shook his head; His dark hair hanging down haphazardly into his eyes.
"Me? Not understand? Come on, Price. You've told me practically everything since we were kids. If I don't understand no one will. Hit me with it.", her legs began to shake.
Abbott shut his eyes and murmured under his breath. "I did it because you are my everything.", he silently waited for Rina's reaction; the burst of laughter, or the Price, you got hit too hard in the hard by that bludger comment, but he had meant every word he had just uttered.
"I-I'm sorry, come again?", had she heard him correctly? Had he really just said that she, weird, tall girl was his everything? Everything was a lot, in fact....it left nothing.
"You heard me, didn't you?", Abbott replied as if the world would swallow him whole any second. "I don't believe I could've made myself any clearer.", he bit his lip, and glanced up at her for a second his brown eyes locking with her blue ones. "When I said everything that's what I meant because that's what you are to me."
Cat felt dizzy. The floor began to move from under her and Price began to duplicate. She stumbled into the chair that she had previously been sleeping in. "Everything.", she repeated softly. She was astonished! "Wow.", Cat looked up at Abbott. She didn't know what to say. "Th-thank you?", as soon as she spoke she wanted to take the words back. How weird was it to reply thank you back?! "No, no. I mean um....well I don't quite know what I was to of meant."
Abbott suppressed the urge to laugh.
Cat didn't quite know what to do. She stood up to try to leave and possibly regain a sense of sanity, but felt almost a gravitational force pulling her toward Abbott. "Price.", she stated. "Your-your captain and I'm a ch-chaser and we're teammates and you know and it'll....and", she trailed on and on until she was sitting on the bed next to him. "Price.", she repeated.
"That's fine if you don't want you and I to be anymore than what we are now, but what are you and I to each other? C'mon, Rina. Is it just me or do you feel something towards me?", Abbott exclaimed.
"Well", Cat's head pounded. "I mean there's no real way of telling....", she couldn't stop rambling and then....BAM! "Yes. Yes! Yes! Abbott, yes.", she smiled.
Abbott laughed. "Rina, Rina. Stop your rambling, please!", he couldn't stop laughing. He couldn't take this any longer he had to do something before he screamed. Abbott wrapped a hand around Cat's waist and kissed her softly on the lips. "Merlin, be damned. Do you know how many years I've wanted to do that?"
Catarina let out a light hearted laugh softly and hooked her arms around Abbott's neck. She couldn't think of anything to say despite the fact that her mouth was moving. Cat kissed him again, deciding that that was the only thing that she could say.
