Ianto smiled and turned his attention to his oldest daughter. Anwen was in her early twenties, the same with her brother Glyn. Eira and Carwyn were still teenagers. But Alex still looked the same as the day Ianto had met him, despite being in his early forties. Ianto himself was 49 ad had more wrinkles than his mum had at this age, he even had more Grey hair than he thought he would get. His mum Morag was still around, yet she was in her sixties and it wasn’t likely she’d be going to keep coming over for a long time yet.
“Dad?” Anwen asked her aging father, bringing him back from his thoughts, for which she felt guilty despite being 23. Ianto smiled again as his eyes refocused on Anwen, who was holding the post out for him.
“Thanks kiddo, you do know you don’t have to come over every Sunday morning,” he said as he took the letters and the first one; a phone bill. He looked at it just as he was about to swallow the coffee he had took in his mouth but instead chocked and started coughing uncontrollably. “I’m gonna kill her.” He muttered before shouting for Eira, his question to Anwen forgotten. He heard Carwyn laugh before Eira appeared before him in her sort skirt and footless tights, and a low cut top that to him was way to low cut. He glared before shoving the phone bill towards her.
“I’m not reading that!” Eira shouted and pushed it back towards Ianto who frowned.
“Well stop phoning Tim as much or you’ll have to pay the £109 phone bill.” Ianto said calmly, he hoped he his name was Tim, last month it had been Finn.
“His names John! God are you stupid or something, or is it just old age you old thingy!” Eira screamed at him. “You don’t give a sit about me and Carwyn, it’s just Anwen and bloody Glyn!” She finished and ran upstairs before any kind of punishment could be handed out.
“Dad she didn’t mean it, you’re not an old thingy.” Anwen said and sat beside her shocked father.
“No she’s right, she’s right about everything. If I’d listened more I’d have known these things.” Ianto sighed and looked at Anwen. “I know the twins and Glyn prefer Alex. You do love me though right? 49 isn’t to old a number for a dad to still be loved is it?”
“No dad, I do still love you, I love you just as much as I do Mark. And I married him,” Anwen said to him and smiled. “You may be 49 but you’re still the same man who worked hard to feed his husband and kids. Still the same man who always found the time to play with his kids even if it meant he was up half the night getting his work done.” Anwen finished, she smiled as she got a smile from Ianto and she gave him a quick hug.
“You always cheer me up you know that,” Ianto said and chuckled when Anwen grinned and stuck her tongue out. “You know, we ought to take thirteen years off you, you’re like a big baby.”
Anwen laughed and put his hand on the bump tat was protruding from under her shirt. “But then this little bundle of joy wouldn’t be coming along in a couple of months.”
Ianto smiled more and brought his hand back to rest on the table. “Well I wouldn’t miss the wonder of birth now would I?” He said and grinned.
“Yeah I know, I just hope I’m not eating when I go into labour,” She joked before standing up and getting her coat. “Anyway I have to go or Mark will be out for blood,” She said and went to the door before turning back. “Tell dad I’ll talk to him later to discuss plans for Tuesday.”
“I’ll tell him bye but no surprise party this year, last year I nearly had a heart attack at the mess afterwards.” Ianto said and grinned, his last surprise birthday party ended up taking two hours to clear up the next morning.
“To bad babe, your mum’s already invited half the street.” Came an amused voice from the doorway leading to the kitchen.
“She can un-invite them.” Ianto said as he turned around to see his husband stood there with his hands in his trouser pockets and air still damp from his shower.
Alex chuckled. “It doesn’t wok that way love,” he grinned and looked over at where Anwen was just about to leave. “See you later kiddo.” He said and she waved and left.
“Doesn’t mean I’m going to be happy about it.” Ianto moaned.
Alex just smiled at what Ianto had said. Ianto would be fifty in only two days and he already had the present. It had taken him months to compile, getting all the photos and putting them in the photo album. “Well anyway, do you uh, wanna kick the twins out for a couple of hours?”
Ianto thingyed his head slightly before catching onto what Alex was saying. “Well, we could do, fresh air would do them good.”
Half an hour later and the kids were still sat in their room, refusing to go outside. “We could always do it tonight if anything.” Ianto said as they sat on the sofa.
“Yeah, but get some sleep. I’ll make tea tonight if anything,” Alex replied. He knew Ianto hadn’t had much sleep the night before. Ianto nodded reluctantly and cuddled up to Alex while closing his eyes and getting to sleep in minutes, leaving Alex to watch his Battlestar Gallactica DVDs.
The next thing Ianto knew was the fact that he was being shaken awake. E gave a grunt and realised there was no Alex at his left side and his head was no longer on his shoulder. He opened his eyes a bit and saw Alex crouched in front of him.
“Hey Sleepyhead, tea’s ready. You slept for like six hours.” Alex told him.
“What time is it?” Ianto asked after a yawn. He sat up and saw the twins sat in front of the television, flicking peas at each other.
Around seven, I fell asleep as well and these two didn’t wake me up until the urge to eat got the better of them,” Alex said and chuckled while producing a plate with a load of vegetables on it. “You have to eat more veg, all you ever eat is that takeaway crap.” He said and put the plate next to Ianto’s leg.
“Maybe I like takeaway crap.” Ianto said but picked up with plate and started to eat, glad that he was eating something good.
A couple of hours later saw the twins messing around down in the living room and Alex and Ianto up in the bedroom, doing what they were going to do before but never had the chance to.
Ianto awoke to a loud bang coming from the kitchen so he got up and put some pyjama bottoms over his naked form and heard Alex do the same. He went over to the cupboard and took the 9 mm handgun he kept in there out before heading out the room. When he saw the kids at the top of the stairs listening to the voices that were evident, he ushered them back into their room silently and went downstairs with Alex right behind him. The voices stopped every time the stairs creaked with the weight being put on them.
When Ianto reached the bottom he came face to face with one of them who had come out of the living room, the face was that of a vampires and he knew the gun would be useless. The vampire took him by the shoulders and threw him into the front door causing him to cry out as the handle hit him in the lower back.
Alex had changed into his game face when he saw the yellow eyes of the other vampire. He ran into the kitchen only to find several more in there with their game faces in place. Two grabbed him from behind and twisted his arms around his back and he winced but didn’t give them the pleasure of crying out. “Well, if it isn’t Alex, Vampire who’s also a vampire killer. It’s very nice to meet you.” The one who came up to his face said, showing his fangs.
“Well, I can’t say the same.” Alex replied but got a kick in his back for his troubles. He looked around when the leader … he guessed … looked over his shoulder and grinned. Three other of the vamps had gone and got Ianto and had him in the same hold as himself. “You better not hurt him or I swear I will kill you.” Alex ground out but got the back of his knee’s kicked so he landed on the floor on his knee’s.
“I think I’m going to have some fun, why come here and see potential food and leave it alone.” The leader said and went over to where Ianto was struggling in the hold of the three vampires that held him. He put a finger next to Ianto’s eye and trailed it down his cheek, watching as blood dripped down from where his nail had cut it. He grinned before leaning forward and licking the blood away, at this Ianto struggled more, a look of panic on his face. He wanted this man to cry, to scream to beg, to do anything but stare at the wall.
“Don’t touch him!” Alex yelled but only got a boot in his side. He grimaced and glared at them.
“I’ll do what I want Alex, it’s not often we get to one so pretty.” He said and took in Ianto’s bare chest and bottoms that hung off his hips, showing his hips. “I see why you picked him, I mean yeah, he may be old but he’s nice. Younger than me anyway.” He laughed and went right up to Ianto; he smiled and snapped his head to the side. Hearing him whimper set a chill up his spine. One of the vamps took the hint and held the man’s head in place. “Do you want to see what its like to see a loved one die Alex?” He asked and motioned for the vamps that held Alex to make him face Ianto, to see the other man’s eyes.
Ianto looked at Alex with a look of panic and fear. He knew what would happen now and he didn’t want it to. He didn’t want to die like this, not so close to his birthday. But he saw Alex would try and stop it, he knew he would. Just knew it. Yet, he couldn’t stop the tear that ran down his cheek and mingle with the blood.
He grinned at the tear and found himself drawn to the man’s neck, the way the pulse was visible and the skin rose and fell with the pressure of it all. “Tonight Ianto, peace will succumb to you.” He said before jumping at that awaiting throat and biting into it, feeling the warmth of the blood enter his mouth, he drank from it, relishing from the taste, a taste he hadn’t experienced many times before, which just made this man even better. He made a signal again for the vampires that weren’t doing anything to join, to taste this man who’s blood was running dry, hearing the whimpers just made him more determined.
Ianto looked Alex in the eye with wide blue eyes, he knew getting bit would hurt but he didn’t know it would be this much. Although when the others bit into what other flesh they could find just made the pain more unbearable and he couldn’t stop the whimpers escaping his mouth. He knew it would be the end now, he could feel it. His heart was slowing.
All Alex could do was watch and cry and scream for them to stop. He didn’t know why this was happening, what had he done to them? What had Ianto done? It didn’t make any sense!
He knew it was near, he could feel and see the body starting to go limp in the hold of the other Vampires. He drank more then stopped, allowing the others to finish him off.
Ianto kept looking into Alex’s eyes the whole time, begging him silently to make them stop, make them stop so he could live. But now e knew it was hopeless, even if they did stop, he would die. He kept looking at Alex and mouthed the words he couldn’t say. ‘I love you.’ Before his eyes glassed over and he saw nothing else but darkness and nothing.
He grinned as the Vamps let the body go and drop to the floor with a thud, the blue glassy eyes still open yet seeing nothing. He went over to where Alex was stood, face covered in tears and eyes red and blotchy. “You know you will be reunited, You’ll see him again in a couple of seconds.” He said before drawing the hand he had put into his coat pocket out, withdrawing a stake and shoved it right into Alex’s heart, grinning at the shocked look that passed the other vampires face before he turned into a pile of ash. He smiled and looked around. “Come on boys, we have somewhere else to be, people to kill.” He said and they left, leaving the body of the man where it had dropped to the floor.
Eira and Carwyn stared at the body and ash of their fathers, Eira sat their sobbing, letting the tears flow while Carwyn stood there shocked. Both hated that they hadn’t done anything, yet they also knew that if they had intervened, they would both be dead as well.
