(I haven't written anything outside of school reports in a while, so if there are any mistakes do please point them out sos I may get better =D)
A black car rolled silently into the parking lot of Glenwood's asylum, and the driver pulled into the nearest empty space before he got out and opened up the back doors to let the other occupants of the car out. First stepped out a young girl of 15, with long, curly auburn hair, and steel grey eyes. Her simple white dress fluttered slightly with the soft breeze and she stepped aside for her mother to get out. The woman looked around her 30’s, and had hair that matched her daughters, but with eyes as green as the forest trees. Next an older male got out. He was plain, with salt and pepper hair and coal black eyes. He adjusted his suit, and commanded the driver to stay with his son in the car until he returned. The boy protested a little, but with a glance from his father, quieted himself and crawled back inside the car to play with his toys.
With a final glance at the car and their surroundings, the trio made their way into the asylum, with the young girl huddling close to her mother as they entered through the front doors. The older man went right up to the front desk and spoke with the older lady sitting behind for a moment before she called down a Dr. Jensen. While they waited, Sarah, the young girl, took the time to look around. There were a lot of chairs around them, and other families sitting down, probably waiting to be ushered in to see family. There was a large table in the center of the room decorated to the edges with flowers and unlit candles. The walls were stark white, but had many photos of puppies and kitties and nature, among other things, hanging off it. Above them hung a beautiful chandelier that sparkled like diamonds whenever the sun hit it just right and the floor under their feet were a pretty white marble. All in all, it was a very beautiful place, considering what kind of people live inside it. A door slammed to her left, forcing a gasp and a jump out of Sarah, who then moved back over to her mother’s side once she realized she had moved.
A pudgy, little old man with balding hair and small glasses had come from the doors, and headed their way in a fast walk. “Johan Schaffer, wonderful to see you again!” The man spoke, taking Johan’s hand and giving it a firm shake. He, at first, didn’t seem to notice Sarah or her mother as he reminisced with Johan about the past, but when Angela cleared her throat he apologized and introduced himself. “Oh, forgive my rudeness. My name is Dr. Jensen, Peter Jensen.” He kissed Angela’s hand lightly before he looked at Sarah, who wrung her hands and shied behind her mother. It seemed like an eternity went by before he stopped staring, and led Johan away to talk. Sarah let a shiver pass through her body once they were out of ear shot. “That old man was creepy. I want to go home now.” She said, crossing her arms at her waist. “I thought you said we were here to see Cousin Rudy, when can we see him?” She asked her mother but frowned when she remembered something, “Wait… when did he get transferred to here? I thought Auntie Gemma said she didn't want him moved...” Angela shuffled her feet and played with the hem of her blouse. “Oh, well… you see, Sarah…” Angela trailed off as Johan and Dr. Jensen came back, followed by a few nurses. They brought along with them a gurney that had straps on the bed, and wheeled it to the side wall, they then gathered the few people that were in the lobby and led them outside and telling them that now was not a good time.
“What’s going on?” Sarah whispered to her mother, shuffling her feet and looking around anxiously.
“Sarah, I regret to inform you that you are unfit for outside life, and as such must stay here, with us, at Glenwood, until you are mentally fit once again.” Dr. Jensen said with a faux frown on his wrinkled face.
“…What?”
Sarah turned to her mother, shock and fear written all over her paled face. “What is he talking about? Johan what is he talking about?” She looked about at everyone in confusion. A hand on her shoulder made her jump and turn back around to find the hand belonging to her mother. “…Mom?”
“Sweetheart, do you remember what you told us?”
Sarah shook her head slightly, brows furrowed.
“About… that man…? The one from before…” Angela continued, looked more and more uneasy as she did. At first, it took Sarah a moment to remember, but once she did, she was hit with a sudden feeling of betrayal.
“But that… was just… You could see him too, right? You said you could. You told me you could.” She fixed her mother with a hard stare that made the older woman lower her head and moved to stand by her future husband. When Sarah removed her gaze from her mother, and to Johan to ask him if this was all a joke, she bit back a gasp when she seen the smug look on his face. “You are ill, child. For lack of a better word, I could even call you crazy. This place will be good for you.” He said, wrapping his arm around Angela.
“Mom, please! I’m not crazy! I don’t want to be here!” Sarah pleaded with her mother in hushed urgency, taking the older woman’s hands in a vice grip. Johan pried her hands from her mother’s grasp and pulled her closer to him. "Don’t you ever touch me, and get your filthy hands off her, you roach!" Sarah hollered at Johan, tempted to get in his face, but she instead turned her attention back to pleading with her mother. "Mom, you have to believe me. I really did see him. Please, please don't leave me." Sarah tried again in a much calmer and softer tone, but Angela sobbed quietly, turning her head away from Sarah and burying it in her new fiancé’s neck. Johan looked down his crooked nose at his soon-to-be step-daughter with pure disgust practically leaking out his eyes. “Your mother has spoken, be gone.” He flicked his wrist, and in moments Sarah was surrounded by a mob of nurses. The men took hold of her arms and dragged her over to a gurney, throwing her down on it and holding her there while a female nurse ran to get a needle.
“My God, mom please! I wasn’t lying! I really seen him, he’s real! I’m not crazy!” Sarah trashed about on the bed, screaming and tossing her head from side to side and kicking and flailing her arms about, trying to fight her way to freedom. Once the nurse returned with the needle, Sarah panicked harder and tried to swallow her previous words. “I take it back! I never saw him mom! Mom!” At seeing her first born child, and only daughter in distress, Angela cried harder, and tried to plea with Johan, tried to get him to reconsider locking her baby girl away in an asylum filled with the mentally deranged in a small, disgustingly isolated town in the middle of nowhere. But her words fell on deaf ears as Johan gripped her arm and drug her outside, and all she could do was listen to her daughter’s cries for her.
“She is crazy, insane. She must be kept here for both our safety and hers as well.” Johan explained, leading them back to their car.
“No, maybe she was telling the truth. Johan, what if Sarah really did see him? What if he-”
A sound akin to a snakes hiss sounded from Johan’s mouth as he shushed her, effectively silencing Angela.
“There will be NO more talk of this… this… invisible man! It’s ridiculous! Shameful! I will not allow myself to be married into a family of crazies! I will stop this disease of the mind before it reaches you or our son, understand?!” Johan’s outburst left Angela wide-eyed and speechless and she got into the car numbly, taking no notice to her son, Edward, crawling into her lap to tell her of his new 'adventure' with the driver, whom he affectionalety called Driverman, and himself, Carboy.
Back inside the asylum, the nurses were still wrestling with Sarah who was hell-bent on getting out. She scratched and bit, smacked and kicked at her restrainers until a larger male put all his weight on her chest, forcing the air out of her lungs and rendering her motionless just long enough for the female nurse to prick her with the needle and inject the sedatives. The man got off of Sarah, who gasped for air and shrugged all the hands off her body as she struggled to get to her feet. Surprisingly they all backed off, just standing and staring at the young girl as she gripped the bars of her gurney and glared hate at them.
“Just relax, Miss Schaffer. The sedatives will start working soon, and then we’ll be able to move you into your new room here at Glenwood. You’ll love it. Everyone here is so nice and the food is wonderful.” Dr. Jensen spoke up, speaking of the place so highly, yet almost in a mechanical way. Sarah probably would have scoffed and spat in his face at hearing him call her ‘Miss Schaffer’ had she understood a single word the man said. Every word was muffled and distorted and hard to understand. Sarah tried to hold onto the bars tighter, but found that she couldn’t move her hands, or anything for that matter, and soon found herself falling. If she was fully aware of things properly, Sarah would have tried to catch herself, but it didn’t matter as she was soon pressed into the sturdy chest of one of the male nurses as he caught her, and began to place her back on the gurney. Once she was strapped down, someone began to wheel her to her new room. Sarah groaned as she stared up at the blurring ceiling through half-lidded and foggy eyes, trying her hardest to move her body. Even doted up, she still tried to get out, but all that halted when she seen at the corner of her eye, a shadowy figure walking beside her gurney. She closed her eyes as tight as she could and opened them again slowly, and sighed when she didn’t see the figure anymore. Her head fell to the side, and as the person wheeling her rounded a corner Sarah closed her eyes again, and gave in to the drugs effects.
